Benefits Information
Employees of the State and DMVA operate in a paperless enrollment environment and all benefits are enrolled on-line. Employees have extensive and current information available to them on-line so they may make educated benefit decisions for themselves and their families. Employees may make election changes to their benefits on May 14 through May 28 for an effective date of July 1, 2009.

Family Medical Leave (FMLA)
Family medical leave is unpaid leave used to provide a guaranteed amount of time, job protection, and continued benefits to eligible employees for the addition of a child or the serious health condition of a parent, child, spouse, or self. Eligible employees are permanent employees with at least one year of state service. Full-time employees are eligible for up to 520 hours per fiscal year. Part-time employees are eligible for a pro-rated amount. Whether family/medical leave is paid or unpaid depends on the individual's leave balances. The employee has the right to be restored to an identical position upon return from family/medical leave. Family Medical Leave runs concurrently with all other types of leave. If the employee is unable to return to work at the end of family/medical leave, restoration rights under the federal law no longer apply and regular leave rules are used.
